You Can Tell Me

Four simple words.
Short.
One syllable.
Unremarkable apart.
But together?

Those four words flooded my heart,
filling me with the warmth only a hug brings.

Four little words,
spoken at just the right moment,
turned a fear-filled few minutes
with hope.......
with understanding.......
with possibility.........

And filled me
with gratitude........
with appreciation.......
with faith........

You can tell me.

You.
Can.
Tell.
Me.

Thank you.
Thank you thank you thank you.

  1. Those words hold so much power, so much hope and care. Within them, there is apparent trust.

You've made me run back through my mind all of the sweet people that have said this statement to me. Thank you for that!

And I'm glad that these words were spoken to you, too.

    1. That trust is unspeakably comforting. There is such power, as you said, in the safety and sweetness of those four little words.

  2. Wonderful words. I love hearing them. I've said them many times, too, cringing a little in doing so. Uncertain of what I'm going to hear. Sometimes it hurts to hear, sometimes it's a relief. But when I say them, I mean them. You can tell me.

    1. Interesting perspective Penny - I'm trying to think of when I've said those words myself - I probably held my breath in waiting for the response, too.

  3. Oh, that's beautiful. To be heard, truly heard, is so healing. And those who open themselves to hear - I don't know if they ever know the power of the gift they give.

    1. I don't know if she knows the value of this gift, either, and I do my best to express my appreciation and thanks as often as possible.

  4. I am struck by the safety in those words. To be able to have a secure place to share your deepest secrets and darkest pain. A true gift. I am glad you have that.

    1. When I heard these words the other day, I literally melted into the chair. You're right - it is a true gift to have one who I can tell anything. I am grateful every day for that.
