Day 1: Story of My Life

Hmmm.... the story of my life..... that oughta be interesting! Especially in 250 words or less! Reader's Digest version, anyone?

Here goes nothing-

I was born on a Thursday morning to a couple living in a small suburb of a bustling metropolitan area.  My first babysitter was the family dog. He'd watch me in a laundry basket in the yard while my mom did whatever it was that she was doing.  I was very sheltered and protected, despite my early babysitter, even though my siblings had limitless freedoms. I had pretty strict rules imposed on me, and I found my way through life, surviving most of the time, but managing to have some fun along the way.

I was introduced to horses at ten, and spent the rest of my youth surrounded by the majestic beasts to which I credit my survival. I’ve been an avid reader my whole life, and getting lost in books kept me sane. My family camped instead of traveled, roasting marshmallows year round in the fireplace at home.  I graduated from high school and made it through university, landing my dream job.  My siblings live all over the globe, and I’m not the greatest at keeping in touch with them, but I try. My family has instituted a “family dinner night” for those that do live local, and while I try to avoid it as much as I can, it is nice to get a brief dose of the mirage that they believe in.

Day 1 Prompt: The story of your life in 250 words or less (or one paragraph... no one will be counting your words... probably)

    1. Wow, I didn't expect this! I will be writing more.... when the mood strikes? Taking requests as to which route to go, if you have a preference where I branch out first? :)

  2. Difficult challenge to summarise so much in so few words, but you've done it beautifully. Loved the line about your first babysitter...and the last line is so poignant and says so much with great subtlety and restraint.

I'd love to see more writing like this from you. Wondering if you have ever thought about writing a book about your experiences. I know a lot of us have!

Always a mixture of emotions stopping by your page - happiness, a quiet pride in your focus, and sadness that you have struggled so much.

    Much love to you xx

    1. So funny Cheryl, that you ask about a book, cause my therapist and I have talked about it in the past. Some of the experiences I had growing up are so far out there, it would leave you completely shocked in disbelief! I can laugh at many experiences now, but boy...... you never know what life is going to give you!

Thank you for your ever-constant quiet support my friend xoxo

  3. Interesting and Intriguing. I agree with Judi, makes you want more. Also makes me want to try my had at this prompt. And here I told myself I was taking some time off from blogging. :)

    1. Link away any time my friend! Here's my blog challenge secret - or at least, it worked for the blog challenge I participated in last summer, and for this one so far: I try to stay 2-3 days ahead of the prompts. I'll draft my response to the prompt, get it laid out with whatever graphic/image will be joining it, and then I'll spend the next few days tweaking it till publication day. I get so excited to finally push "publish" when I do it this way, leaves me feeling less pressure to write!

(then again, you and I both know how many times words just don't flow and how excruciating it can be to get a post up!)

  5. Your story sounds quite interesting and I, like the others, am interested to know more. I hope that you share, if you feel comfortable, as time goes on.

Thinking of you, and hoping you have a wonderful weekend!
