June Blog Challenge Day 1: Change
Change is HARD. A lot of time, change sucks. Like, really, really sucks. Change involves retraining, relearning, a lot of unlearning, and a lot of pain in the process. Change often requires a whole new perspective shift. That's not easy, either.
However, change is usually worth it. The agony of changing makes you stronger, or at least it makes me stronger. Sometimes I slip back into old habits and patterns, but that is part of the process. Until I have changed that behavior, or whatever it is I'm trying to change, down to the sub-atomic level, I will have to consciously work to make the change automatic.
I have this awesome poster hanging in my classroom. It reads: If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten. That single statement sums up change so eloquently, while encompassing the magnitude of change itself.
I struggle to change. I like consistency. While some of the choices I have made and continue to make aren't the best choices, they are familiar ones. It is in the process of changing where I will learn the most, and eventually, what was once new, and a lot of work, will be habit, and healthy at that.
The only constant in life is change... might as well get used to it!
Prompt: Given that this is a partnership with Hungry for Change, it seems
fitting to begin with this word. Make it your own. You can talk about
your own transformation. You can write about what you still hope
to change; you can write about the world and what needs to be done; you
can explain how difficult change was for you at points in your life.
I think change is worth it also. Even change that we think is bad at the time opens new doors and opportunities. I'm looking forward to reading your posts:)
ReplyDeleteThanks Angela! Funny how change works - one door closes, another opens. We just have to be willing to look for that new door.
DeleteYeah, I like consistency, too. As my T told me once, we will stay in the worst of situations just because it is familiar! And it's true..we stay because change can be so hard. But then once you do it, I always find I'm really glad I did (for the most part!:)).
ReplyDeleteThanks for a wonderful post.
Ugh. I know what you mean about staying in situations just cause they're familiar. Not always smart, but sometimes so much more comfortable than changing.
DeleteYes, change is hard... You're not alone in struggling with it. I look forward to reason more from you as you continue with my challenge. :-) It's so great to see how everyone writes about the same word!
ReplyDeleteThanks Arielle! This blog challenge has been such a powerful experience so far! Lots of self-reflection, that's for sure!
Deletei can't wait to read more of your posts ; )
ReplyDeletechange can be hard - but the reward can be soooooo worth it!!
I just wish that sometimes we could see the outcome before we step into the process, you know?
